AKA, also known as Kiernan Forbes, was shot dead outside a restaurant in the seaside city of Durban, his family said in a statement. AKA is one of South Africa’s most well-known rappers.
Details indicate that as Kiernan Forbes, better known by his stage handle “AKA,” and his close buddy Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane, a chef and businessman, were leaving a restaurant to go to their car.
The family released a statement saying, “It is with deep grief that we acknowledge the departure of our darling son and confirm his untimely and tragic passing on the evening of February 10, 2023.” They continued, “We thank you for the love and support we have already gotten and ask that you keep us in your prayers and raised up in the Lord.”
The 35-year-old musician, who was the most well-known rapper in South Africa, was nominated for multiple Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards in the US and once for an MTV Europe Music Award. He also won the South African Awards and was the most frequently nominated artist.
