The Consumer Price Index (CPI), which tracks monthly inflation in Pakistan, reached a new high of 35.37 percent year over year in March, according to figures issued on Saturday by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
The price growth in urban and rural areas was 32.97 percent and 38.88 percent, respectively, according to data made available by PBS.
The major reasons for the considerable increase in food inflation were the disruption of supply systems and lax restrictions.
Food inflation last month sharply increased to 47.1% in cities and a catastrophic 50.2% spike in rural areas, according to PBS data.
