KARACHI – When crisis-hit Pakistan tried to cut spending while facing the biggest economic collapse, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif enacted strict austerity measures.
At a news conference, Sharif and his cabinet members stated that all government employees, particularly his aides, would forgo wages in order to save Rs200 billion annually.
He stated that only one luxury automobile would be offered to members and announced the auctioning of such vehicles. On international and domestic trips, officials will not fly first class. The number of members that go with the official delegation will be reduced, and they will only select affordable lodging over pricier options.
The federal cabinet meeting when the austerity plan was adopted was presided over by the premier earlier in the day. The prime minister stated in his speech that austerity would continue to be crucial if there is to be any chance of resolving the current crisis quickly.
