Chief Terms for International Atomic Energy World Class Nuclear Power Plant Safety in Pakistan

Pakistan’s nuclear security is “world-class,” according to Rafael Mariano Grossi, director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Speaking at a seminar in Islamabad on Thursday, the IAEA DG said Pakistan’s capacity to construct “new nuclear power plants” points to a “promising future” for nuclear energy and achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

According to the director general, there is strong political support for new nuclear power projects in Pakistan. Grossi commended Pakistan’s nuclear safety and described the safety protocols used at nuclear facilities as “world-class.”

The IAEA director is in Pakistan for a two-day visit to discuss matters relating to the cooperation between Pakistan and the IAEA.

While he was there, IAEA Director General Grossi met with Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to discuss possible cooperation between the two organizations in the areas of nuclear medicine, agriculture, industry, and power generation.
