In Wah Cantt, a franchisee of a mobile company, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) successfully conducted a raid to stop the illicit activation of SIM cards.
Digital devices were seized during the operation, including laptops, PCs, mobile phones, and SIM cards (both active and inactive). According to a news announcement, four individuals in all were taken into custody.
After noticing an unusual SIM sale trend at the retail channel, PTA had already complained to FIA.
It is important to note that PTA recently introduced the Multi Finger Biometric Verification System (MBVS) in December 2022, and the raid is a part of its efforts to preventatively thwart attempts to circumvent the new system.
It is evidence of the PTA’s dedication and consistent efforts to stop the issuance of illegitimate SIM cards.—APP
