Pakistan sees a rise in cotton arrivals: PCGA

KARACHI – When compared to July 15, cotton arrival in Pakistani factories increased significantly on August 1.

The Pakistan Cotton Ginner’s Association (PCGA) announced monthly data on Thursday, showing that cotton arrival jumped to 1.4286 million bales as of August 1 from 0.858 million bales recorded on July 15, 2023.

Since data was not gathered on August 1, 2022, a year-over-year comparison was not possible.

According to the PCGA, both Sindh and Punjab had a significant increase in cotton arrival.

In Punjab, it was over two times as high, while in Sindh, it was about 57%.

In Punjab, 0.3886 million bales of cotton were received as of August 1 compared to 0.1988 million bales on July 15, 2023.

1.040 million bales of cotton had arrived in Sindh as of August 1 compared to 0.659 million bales on July 15.

Standing crops were severely harmed by last year’s unprecedented floods, especially in Sindh. An increase in cotton shipments is encouraging for the textile industry.
