Remittances from IT exports rose by 2.38% in the first half of 2022–2023.

The exports of information technology (IT), which include telecommunication, computer, and information services, were US$ 1.333 billion from July to December of the fiscal year 2022–23, an increase of 2.38 percent from US$ 1.302 billion during the same period in 2017.

Data provided by the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication showed that IT export remittances of US$ 1.333 billion had been realised by the IT & Information Technology Enabled Service (ITeS) Industry during the period of July to December of FY2022-23, an increase of 2.38% in comparison to US$ 1.302 billion reported for the same period last year.

The IT & ITeS Industry realised a trade surplus of US$ 1.166 billion, or 87.47% of the total remittances from Information and Communication Technology (ICT) exports, from July to December of FY2022-23 to help the country with its foreign exchange need. Compared to the trade surplus of US$ 972 million for the same time in FY2021-22, it increased by 19.96%.

ICT sector exports are the biggest among all services, at US$ 1.333 billion (or 37.8% of all service exports), with ‘Other Business Services’ coming in second at US$ 816 million.

ICT services led all services with a remarkable trade surplus of US$ 1.166 billion, with “Other Business Services” coming in second at US$ 201 million.
