Sindh and New York are about to begin the process of establishing a sister-state relationship.

The US state of New York and Sindh will begin their sister-state relationship today. Governor Kamran Khan Tessori of Sindh will meet with Deputy Speaker Phil Ramos of the New York State Assembly today to formally launch this engagement. At this time, Sister Cities International has about 2,500 partnerships with sister communities in 134 different nations.

Dr. Ijaz Ahmad, the chairman of the American Pakistani Public Affairs Committee (APPAC), is advocating the idea of sister states and has good ties to both Republicans and Democrats. He is currently entertaining Ramos and the governor of New York, Tessori. Ramos was ordered to propose a resolution establishing Sindh province and New York as sister states to the State Assembly by APPAC on Friday. Ramos, an old acquaintance of Dr. Ahmad, “graciously agreed” to the plan.

The way forward for this engagement will now be explored when the governor of Sindh and the deputy speaker of the New York State Assembly get together for a business brunch. Following this event, a group from New York state will travel to Karachi to meet with the members of the Sindh Assembly. The objective is to concentrate on issues of common interest.

In order to benefit the populations of both countries, Dr. Ijaz Ahmad was tasked with maximizing Governor Sindh Kamran Tessori’s visit to Washington, DC, by endeavouring to establish sister-state connections. The well-known American-Pakistani physician Dr. Ijaz Ahmad merely needed to make one phone call to make everything happen. The commitment of Governor Tessori and Dr. Ijaz shows how they both look for ways to help Pakistan.
